Our high-level Jury is made up of leading corporate communicators and public affairs professionals and demonstrates our pan-regional network and collective expertise. The jury members’ range of expertise covers the whole of Asia-Pacific, and were carefully drawn from APACD board members, country coordinators and working group leaders.
Before joining BNY Mellon, Karen had held various integrated communications and marketing roles at global companies including Societe Generale, law firm Baker & McKenzie, as well as having broad experience within the retail and institutional businesses of two of Australia’s major banks, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Westpac Banking Corporation. At the end of 2014, she completed her first book project and published “Press * to engage” to share her other passion on the topic of employee engagement. In 2014, she led the BNY Mellon team to winning VMA’s inaugural Internal Communications showcase award.
Karen graduated with a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and holds a MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.
Before joining Google, Claudia was the Regional Director of Government Affairs for Seagate Technology in Asia Pacific. She led Seagate's public policy and government affairs programs, and she was also Vice Chair of the ICT Committee in the US-ASEAN Business Council.
Prior to Seagate, Claudia spent a large part of her career at the trade and investment promotion agencies of Singapore, Japan and New Zealand. In between her government roles, Claudia had a business development stint on e-payments in the private sector that developed her interest in fintech.
Claudia serves as a judge for Asia Pacific's leading awards for communications and public affairs, such as the Gold Standard Awards by Public Affairs Asia and the Asia Pacific Communications Award by Asia Pacific Association of Communication Directors (APACD).
She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a B.A. Honors degree (Upper Second Class) in Japanese Studies, and a B.A. (Merit) in Sociology and Japanese Studies. She speaks English, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese) and Japanese.
Previously she worked with Fidelity (AUM $4.3 trillion) where she was Head and Associate Director – Corporate Communications. Her responsibilities included Communications, Crisis & issues management, Public Affairs, Living Art, Fidelity Foundation and Community Affairs and Diversity. Shravani also worked with CSC (India) NYSE: CSC, Revenues $13.0 billion, Fortune 200, as Head of Country (General Manager) for Corporate Communications. Responsibilities included Public Affairs, CSR, Community Affairs and Diversity, Crisis & issues management.
Shravani’s experience in the not-for-profit sector was as Manager Communications, Coordination, Resource Mobilization and External Relations with CARE India (Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere).In CARE she was part of an international team assessing the flood situation in Assam and was involved with the Elton John AIDS awareness project as well.
Shravani has had a brief stint as Faculty in Delhi University where she taught Mass Communications. A prolific writer, she has over 1000 published contributions. Shravani graduated with honours in Sociology which has given her a deep understanding of the diverse pan- Indian cultural context as well as global human connects. She also founded the Creative Writing Workshop.
Prior to relocating to Singapore, Rachael was the External Communications Manager for Bayer Australia. Previous to that she worked for a leading Australian public relations firm where she managed clients from a broad range of industries, including healthcare, telecommunications, television, automotive and the arts.
Rachael graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communications) and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management from Macquarie Graduate School of Management.
Rajesh S. Manik
Pierre is on the Board of the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) and is founding President of the Asia-Pacific Association of Communication Directors (APACD).
I have pretty solid experience in conceptualising, strategising, implementing and managing marketing & communication functions in global markets with a strong focus on Asia Pacific. A creative planner, strategist & implementer with clear demonstrative abilities in creating brand awareness, brand building and managing the reputation of the organisation both externally as well as internally.
Expertise in strategising marketing objectives in line with business goals along with planning and implementing corporate communication goals, thus ensuring corporate branding and communication guidelines are followed.
Before joining Microsoft in 1992, Andrew was an Account Director with Saatchi & Saatchi in London. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Marketing from Lancaster University in the UK and post-graduate executive education from Harvard Business School and Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago. A British citizen, he is married with two children and a permanent resident of Singapore.
Charmaine also spent several years working for one of Australia’s leading radio broadcasters Southern Cross Austereo (then known as Austereo) and has worked at major arts festivals, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Adelaide Festival of Arts.
Charmaine holds a Bachelor of Arts (Communication Studies) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Public Relations, and she’s the Country Coordinator for APACD’s Australian chapter.
Michael Chapnick holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Michigan’s Ford School of Public Policy and Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Beloit College. He is based in Singapore.
Before joining Herbalife in 2012, she has held a number of global and regional communications positions in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia – Temasek Holdings (the investment arm of Singapore’s Ministry of Finance), Royal Philips Electronics (semiconductors division), Nortel Networks, Burson-Marsteller and has served as a senior advisor of Pelham Bell Pottinger Asia Pacific.
Daliea holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA.

This year, the Jury will also invite the most promising campaign within the Asia-Pacific region to present their case at the live Jury Meeting (“Best of the Best” Award). They are looking for a project which stands out for its innovation and visibility. The Jury of the Asia-Pacific Communications Awards will choose the nominees of this category.
By making use of communications campaigns and projects, as well as using carefully selected communications channels, a company can spread their designated messages onto their target groups. The Asia-Pacific Communications Award in this category rewards the campaign or project, which uses communication tools most intelligently to keep their eclectic target groups well informed and mobilised with a proven forward-thinking outlook.
Institutions, ministries and parties are entrusted to work towards the good of society as a whole. Their ability to connect with the populace is what gets them into office in the first place – and keeps them there in the long run. The best campaigns or projects initiated by an institution will be rewarded in this category.
Non-Governmental organisations and associations bring their topics onto the public agenda and thus gain political and social influence. The winner of this category will showcase a strategy that provides a platform for effective member communications, and allows the collective to pursue their goals to the highest level possible.
The Asia-Pacific Communications Awards honour outstanding communications achievements on an Asia-Pacific level. The award is given to the team who have displayed extraordinary communication efforts in the past year.
Navigating through the world of PR in the Asia-Pacific region can be quite tricky: providing clients with valuable counsel and offering high-quality execution ideas. This category distinguishes an agency which has performed best cases with unusual, creative campaigns and excellent consultation within the last year.
This category is designed to specifically reward a professional that is leading us into the next era of communications. It will recognise an individual of the age of 30 and under who has worked on outstanding communications projects that were implemented successfully and deals with innovative ideas.

This category rewards holistic and sustainable internal communications that takes the skills of employees into account and gains acceptance from the workforce.
Making sure that an organisation is on target with its public image ambitions is a never-ending challenge. Remaining aware, sensitive and responsive to issues that might affect your organisation’s reputation is a vital part of successful practice and is the key to winning this category.
Producing concise, accurate and tactful information regularly, whether it is from business to business or from business to client, is at the very core of external publications. The Asia-Pacific Communications Awards will go to the external publication (e.g. annual report, CSR report, magazine, newsletter) which manages to capture its target audience in an efficient way.

Having a healthy communication and information resource in the form of a highly efficient online platform is important regardless of the size of an organisation. This can be a blog, a website or microsite, an intranet or a mobile app). The winning online platform connects the organisation to itself and to its client and partner base, providing a multi-directional information sharing platform.
Efficient viral communications take place beyond the limits of traditional communication solutions. Video clips, advergames, e-books, brandable software, images, text messages, emails or web pages are tools that can be used. The Award will go to the project which uses analytical consideration and effective strategic planning to its advantage.
Projects & Strategies
Corporate Responsibility is the way your organisation gives back to make a difference in the lives of your stakeholders and the great good of the world. It is the code of ethics and standards corporations undertake to better themselves raise the bar not only for the benefit of the organisation but also for the betterment of the community. Communicating activities to the public is a crucial element in the success of CR campaigns or projects.
There are countless events every year. Which of them stand out and do remain in memory? In this category, we distinguish the event which persuaded visitors with exciting subjects and formats. This can be a congress, an exhibition, a discussion group or a corporate event.

The Asia-Pacific Association of Communication Directors (APACD) provides a network for mid- to senior-level in-house communication professionals from all fields and industry across Asia-Pacific. We offer a forum to exchange and network amongst peers, to advance professional qualifications and to jointly establish common quality standards.
